Two Kansas Jayhawks players — Josh Jackson and Lagerald Vick — are persons of interest in a vandalism case involving a fellow student.
Josh Jackson, who is a projected top lottery pick in this year’s NBA Draft, and teammate Lagerald Vick are being investigated after allegedly vandalizing a fellow student’s car. The incident happened two months ago but investigators seem to be narrowing things down.
According to the Kansas City Star, no charges have been filed yet but there is an ongoing investigation into the vandalism. But this already seems to be something more than just a case of students doing stupid things, as deeper digging is connecting dots that paint a horrible picture.
On the vandalism, per The Star:
"The players of interest in the case are Josh Jackson and Lagerald Vick. Investigators have recently interviewed several people who witnessed the reported crime, which occurred in the early morning hours of Dec. 9 outside a bar. A police report categorizes the $2,991 in damage to the car as a felony."
While that’s bad in it’s own right, things get even worse when it’s factored in that the victim of this alleged vandalism is a female student that Vick has been accused of assaulting back in 2015.
"Officers spoke with the victim, who is the same female student a KU investigation found Vick likely hit in the arm multiple times and kicked in the face in late 2015. A phone number for that student has been disconnected and an attorney for the family has not returned multiple phone calls for comment."
Passing judgement at this time is irresponsible, as the investigation is still ongoing. If things break and reveal that Jackson and Vick indeed were the vandals, with prior connections to the victim, that’s a bad look for Kansas and all involved.
