The upsets continue in college basketball
It’s been an eventful Saturday in college basketball with four top 10 teams getting upset. The Baylor Bears and Kansas Jayhawks both suffered surprising home losses while the Arizona Wildcats and Virginia Cavaliers fell on the road.
With all the chaos, here’s what the top 10 may look like come Monday.
1. Gonzaga – Led by Nigel Williams-Goss, the Bulldogs remain atop the polls. Their only realistic chance to lose a regular season game comes February 11 at Saint Mary’s.
2. Villanova – It took a Donte DiVincenzo tip-in to get past Virginia last weekend, but the Wildcats still look like the best team in the Big East.
3. Louisville – Donovan Mitchell has played his way into the All-American conversation as the Cardinals have won seven of their last eight.
4. Baylor – The Bears had an opportunity to make up significant ground in the Big 12 title race, but their late flurry against Kansas State in Waco wasn’t enough.
5. Kansas – Iowa State knocked off the Jayhawks for their 10th loss at Allen Fieldhouse under Bill Self. The Cyclones nailed 18 3s en route to the upset.
6. West Virginia – The Mountaineers may actually be the best team in the Big 12, but they’ve been unlucky so far in a trio of conference losses. The total margin in those defeats is just seven points.
7. Kentucky – The Wildcats own a big win over North Carolina and not much else, but they still have one of the country’s most electric backcourts.
8. Arizona – It’s tough to look worse than the Wildcats did in Eugene on Saturday. Don’t expect that to happen again this season.
9. Wisconsin – The Badgers have quietly worked their way to 8-1 in the Big Ten and Ethan Happ continues to be one of the nation’s most underrated players.
10. UCLA – Losers of two of their last three, the Bruins are searching for answers on the defensive end despite having the country’s most impressive offense.
