Southampton face West Ham at St. Mary’s on Saturday, Feb. 4. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Southampton have been struggling in the Premier League over the past couple of months. Claude Puel’s side managed only one league win in January, at home against Leicester, while their only two wins in six December matches came against Bournemouth and Middlesbrough. That run of form — which adds up to 10 points from the last 30 available — has seen them slip into the bottom half of the table, where it looks like they might finish for the first time since 2012-13. The latest setback came against relegation-threatened Swansea, who beat the Saints 2-1 midweek. However, the disappointing league campaign has been brightened, and possibly also explained, by an excellent run to the League Cup final, where Southampton will face Manchester United later this month
West Ham have had a mediocre season themselves, and currently sit one point and one place above the Saints in the table. The Hammers were thrashed by Manchester City on Wednesday, losing 4-0. Southampton don’t possess anything close to the same attacking threat, but Slaven Bilic’s side must be better at the back if they’re going to get anything from this match. They’ll be hoping Jose Fonte, who will face is old club for the first time since moving to West Ham in January, will have a more comfortable outing than he did in his debut against City.
