T.J. Oshie’s 20th goal of the season did a number on Peter Budaj’s water bottle.

Most goalies carry a water bottle around. During the lulls in play and stoppages, they can usually be seen drinking from it. With all the equipment and padding goalies wear, they sweat a lot, so it helps them stay hydrated. T.J. Oshie showed no mercy to the water bottle of Los Angeles Kings goaltender Peter Budaj, sniping it to score his 20th goal of the season. The goal gave the Washington Capitals a 4-0 lead.

The Capitals have done some crazy things at home in 2017. In fact, they have yet to lose a game at home this calendar year. But this might be one of the most nuts things a Capitals player has done this year. Credit Oshie for finding the small window to score his goal. Budaj took away most of the net. However, he couldn’t take away his upper glove side, leaving it open for Oshie.

Washington is having one heck of a regular season. They sit in first place in the NHL and appear primed to defend their President’s Trophy. However, the Capitals success this season won’t be judged by the regular season or even by Oshie’s pretty goal. It’s going to be judged by how they do in the postseason. The Capitals have seen enough regular season success to last them a lifetime, but have zero Stanley Cups to show for it.

Oshie’s goal gives him his second straight 20 goal season and the third of his career. In his first season with the Capitals, he got a career high 26 goals. Through 43 games this season, Oshie has 35 points, including 20 goals and 15 assists. He came up huge for them in the postseason last year. If the Capitals can maintain this impressive level of play in April, May and June, a Stanley Cup parade in DC could finally happen.
