Luke Bryan started Super Bowl 51 off with a bang. Watch the country music star’s rendition of the national anthem.

Before Super Bowl 51 officially kicked off at NRG Stadium in Houston, Luke Bryan stole the show with his singing of the national anthem. The country singer showed his vocal range and skills as he sung the national anthem. Check out the national anthem performance below.

Bryan announced earlier this year that he had the honor of playing the anthem during Super Bowl 51. It isn’t typical for a country singer to perform the national anthem in past Super Bowl events. However, the NFL showed that this move was worth it as Bryan hit the ball out of the park.

Yet, some people won’t be pleased with his performance due to the length of the time. The over/under of the national anthem was set at 2:09. Despite going singing the national anthem slower, Bryan came in at 2:04. Those who bet the under rejoiced as if they won the Super Bowl personally.

All in all, this shouldn’t be the last time that Bryan performs at the Super Bowl. It isn’t typical to have a country act perform during halftime, but the NFL should look to vary the halftime show up a tad. While each recent performance has been different, the artists aren’t from the country realm of music and it’s something the NFL should consider for future shows.

Country music stars like Bryan have a large following. Bryan’s national anthem performance was hyped up since his Twitter announcement. This is due to his popularity and the variety and uniqueness he brings through his performances. This should lead to higher ratings and that is music to the league’s ears during a time where ratings have begun to drop.
