After coming back to win Super Bowl 51, Tom Brady received the MVP trophy from Roger Goodell. Did the two get along and shake hands during the post-game meeting?

Super Bowl 51 wasn’t going well for the New England Patriots. It appeared NFL commissioner Roger Goodell would be able to avoid the inevitable meeting between him and Tom Brady. However, Brady and company pulled off one of the biggest comebacks in all of sports. In recognition of his wonderful play, Brady was named Super Bowl 51 MVP and received the MVP trophy from the commissioner himself.

Obviously, Brady’s relationship with Goodell isn’t the best as a result of the DeflateGate scandal. Patriots fans especially have grown to hate the commissioner even more due to his ruling that led to Brady’s four-game suspension to start the 2016 season. In the end the extra rest for Brady may have been more beneficial than bad. Nonetheless, the DeflateGate issue and the subsequent time spent on an investigation took away from the play on the field.

While many Patriots fans and even Robert Kraft haven’t moved on from events surrounding DeflateGate, Brady had clearly moved on. On Sunday he proved it as he accepted the Super Bowl 51 MVP trophy from the commissioner professionally. There was no pre-planned protest or antics that took away from his play or the award itself. Instead, Brady shook Goodell’s hand firmly and for a good minute or so as the two had a moment together.

In the end, people can still be bitter over DeflateGate. The media spent way too much on Brady and the issue throughout the offseason and early part of the season. Yet, Brady and the Patriots found a way to come away with another Super Bowl victory.
