While New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady collected Super Bowl records, he also lost his NFL jersey.

As we were still digesting the unfathomable Super Bowl come back led by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, a hunt for his game worn jersey is underway. A video from NFL.com’s Dan Hanzus shows Brady greeting Patriots owner Robert Kraft in the locker room and informing him that his jersey has gone missing.

Kraft’s advice to Brady, look online.

So that’s what the collective NFL community did and NFL Network analyst Ian Rapoport added fuel to the fire by passing along a screen shot of two guys claiming to have Brady’s jersey on Instagram.

This was an attempt at capitalizing on a viral story, and the caption was later amended to add that it was a joke.

But a legitimate hunt for the jersey is underway. Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has asked the Texas Rangers (the real-life Chuck Norris version, not the baseball team) to aid in the search for it, which the Houston Police Department is already conducting. His reasoning? Texas’ long history of hospitality.

“In Texas we place a very high value on hospitality and football,” Patrick said. “Tom Brady’s jersey has great historical value and is already being called ‘the most valuable NFL collectable [sic] ever.’ It will likely go in the Hall of Fame one day. It is important that history does not record that it was stolen in Texas.”

For what it is worth, the NFL has also added that it is working with law enforcement officials to recover the jersey. Given commissioner Roger Goodell’s love affair with Tom Brady and the Patriots, you can choose to believe that as much as you’d like.

The good news for Brady is that he has collected records despite losing his jersey, 11 Super Bowl records to be exact. Here is a sampling of records he set (H/T Pro Football Talk).
