Call of Duty fans, it’s time to get excited. The series will be returning to its roots with the traditional gameplay we love in 2017.

It’s no secret that longtime fans of the Call of Duty series are growing restless, especially with the most recent games. But, fear not, because during Activision Blizzard’s Q4 Earnings Call, the company confirmed that they will be returning to their roots in 2017. (Source: Charlie Intel)

Not only this, but developer Sledgehammer Games will be developing the new title. This is somewhat strange for them, considering that they’re the team that started the new era in Call of Duty games. Advanced Warfare was a hit or miss for many people, so they have a lot riding on their shoulders with this new game.

We’re feeling good about it, though. The possibilities are endless when it comes to traditional boots on the ground gameplay. A game being set during the Cold War would be amazing, but details are still very minimal. We should learn more in a few months.

Other than this, Activision announced a variety of other things:

2016 was an extremely profitable year for the company. Black Ops III was a huge success. But, on the other hand, Infinite Warfare was a pretty big disappointment. Thankfully, Modern Warfare Remastered helped push the sales.

This only supports the claim that the fans want traditional Call of Duty back. There’s nothing like keeping your feet on the ground instead of worrying about other players flying around. Needless to say, we’re excited to see what Sledgehammer Games comes up with.
