Duke vs. North Carolina is one of the best college basketball rivalries in the nation. On Thursday, Duke’s student section, the Cameron Crazies, trolled UNC’s players perfectly.

One of the games circled on college basketball calendar every year is when Duke and the University of North Carolina face off in Atlantic Coast Conference action. Many years both teams end up playing again at least once in postseason play as well. Prior to Thursday’s matchup at Duke, the student section, the Cameron Crazies, began a Villanova Chant in an attempt to intimidate the North Carolina players’ heads early on.

One of the reasons Duke-North Carolina is a great college basketball rivalry is due to the student sections. No matter where the game is, the opposing team is the target of the student section’s chants and other actions. The Crazies found a great way to troll North Carolina by bringing up Villanova. Last year’s championship match between the Tar Heels and the Wildcats was an instant classic. Marcus Paige hit a three-point shot to tie the game at 74 with seconds left to play. However, the Wildcats came out on top as Kris Jenkins sank the buzzer-beater to win Villanova won its first national championship since 1985.

Duke’s student section found a classy way to take a jab at North Carolina. They need to do whatever they can to rattle the play of the Tar Heels. The Blue Devils are in desperate need of a win at home. They are barely over .500 in ACC play with a 6-4 record and currently sit seventh. A loss against UNC would be yet another disappointing result for the perennial powerhouse.

On the other hand, UNC sits at the top of the conference. While Roy Williams would prefer to beat Duke, UNC can better afford to take a loss. No matter the end result of Thursday’s match, the Crazies will be loud and proud throughout the contest.
