The show, or in this case the hockey game must go on. Despite a massive snow storm, the Boston Bruins’ game against the San Jose Sharks will go on as scheduled.
On Thursday, a massive snow storm hit the New England area. Despite Boston and the surrounding area being covered in over a foot of snow, the NHL game between the Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks will go on as scheduled on Thursday night.
As reported by the Associated Press, the Boston Bruins asked the NHL to postpone the game do to the hazardous conditions fans would have to go through to make it to TD Gardens for the game. But the league refused to reschedule the game, stating that there is no room in the schedule to make up the game.
Because of the extra hockey played in September this season because of the World Cup of Hockey, every NHL team gets a bye-week this season. But the regular season is not any longer than it has been in the past, meaning there are more back-to-back games, and there is not much room left in the schedule to make up postponed games. Combined with finding a new time when both teams a free and TD Gardens is available means there is no time to reschedule the game.
The Bruins understand that many fans will be unable to make it to Thursday’s game. If fans want to, they can exchange their ticket for any other regular season game between now and December 31st.
Despite the bad weather, this is set to be a pretty big game for Boston. It will mark Bruce Cassidy’s debut as interim Head Coach. He takes over from the recently fired Claude Julien.
