Brook Lopez does not want Rodney McGruder in his paint

Brook Lopez and the Brooklyn Nets haven’t had much to get excited about this season. Their nine wins is an NBA worst and it feels like they’re getting the doors beat off of them on a nightly basis. Yet they still come in and put on a show for the Brooklyn crowd on a nightly basis. Believe it or not, despite their record, the Nets are one of the more entertaining watches in the NBA right now. Sure they lose a lot of games, but they shoot a ton of threes and provide a highlight here and there.

Lopez is still one of the best centers the NBA has to offer, and when he gets cookin’, there aren’t many bigs out there that are more fun to watch.

However, the one criticism that’s gone against him his entire career has been his defense. Rodney McGruder of the Miami Heat must have read that scouting report, because when he drove in for a dunk he was thinking an easy two points. Lopez was thinking otherwise.

This block by Lopez has potential to be one of the best of the year. Look at the extension McGruder had on his dunk before being rejected. To get up there and send that shot in the other direction without ending up on a poster is extremely impressive on the part of Lopez. It’s just extra that he also sent McGruder crashing to the floor with his rejection. Maybe next time he’ll think twice about heading into the paint when Lopez is patrolling it.

Honestly though, the best part of this highlight has to be Donny Marshall reacting the same way most people did when that lane opened up for McGruder. “Oh boy”, he said when there wasn’t a soul between McGruder and the rim. It definitely felt like this was gonna end as a highlight in Miami’s favor, not Brooklyn’s.
