Kevin Durant hit the most poetic shot of the night in his return to Oklahoma City, nailing a long triple over Russell Westbrook for the dagger.
Kevin Durant came into Saturday night’s game as the bad guy; Russell Westbrook, the good guy. It was a clash of the ages where only one could come out on top in the return of Kevin Durant to Oklahoma City.
While there might have been two coaches, and 28 other players taking place in this basketball game, everybody knows it was really Durant vs Westbrook. Those were the only two that mattered the entire night and everybody knew it. The fans knew it. The players knew it. The media knew it. Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant knew it.
Which is why, with time running down, it was so poetic to see Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook facing off. One more bucket from the Warriors would give them the gap they needed to win it, and Westbrook being unable to stop his former teammate from making what would for sure mean a loss. Just like their previous two matchups in Golden State, Durant came out on top.

There’s something poetic about Durant hitting it over his former co-star to win the game for his former team. He came in as the villain so it’s only fitting that he would strike down the hero that faced him to give the evil Warriors their desired victory. Obviously, Durant isn’t an actual villain or even bad person for that matter, but he did an incredible job playing up the role of one in tonight’s victory.

Westbrook put on a show, scoring 47 points and coming up two assists shy of another triple double, but at the end of the night Durant came out on top with an incredible performance of his own. Durant had 34 points and nine rebounds against his former team, in a hostile environment, and then he hit them with the dagger over the player that OKC puts its hope into. Durant is not a villain, but he fits exactly what OKC sees in one. Poetic.
