Super Bowl 51 hero James White drops puck for Bruins (Video)
James White dropped the puck as the New England Patriots got honored by the Boston Bruins.
Boston sports teams have a tendency to rally around each other. It’s quite amazing how much the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics support each other. After the Patriots won their fifth Super Bowl, the Bruins honored them with a brief pregame ceremony. It concluded with Super Bowl 51 hero James White dropping the buck.
A few things stand out about this. First of all, I’ve seen Zdeno Chara about half a million times. It’s still scary to see how freaking huge he is. Here’s all these football players being celebrated, and Chara’s probably bigger than all of them. His stick is also quite long. In fact, it’s the longest one in the NHL. Chara’s stick is actually larger than the league allows, but he gets a special exception because of his abnormal height.
Secondly, this is a very boring puck drop. Do something special with it. Rob Gronkowski had fun with it a few years ago by spiking the puck. Hopefully White’s puck drop and the pregame ceremony pumped up the Bruins because they need every win they can get.
Boston recently fired their head coach Claude Julien. Ironically, they did it on the same day as the Patriots Super Bowl parade. So maybe this is a bit of a “thanks for winning the Super Bowl so we could fire our head coach while no one is watching” present from the Bruins to the Pats.
