7. Brett Favre’s 297-Straight Games Started

Listing out the records owned by Brett Favre throughout his 20-year NFL career might take all day, frankly. There aren’t many marks that he didn’t set throughout his run with the Green Bay Packers and then his waning years with the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings. However, all of the passing touchdowns, yards, and completion records pale in comparison to his record for the most consecutive starts in NFL history.

Between the three teams that he played for from 1992-2010, Favre lined up under center in 297-straight regular season games. If you factor in the playoffs, he started 321 consecutive contests at quarterback. For a position that’s known for taking a beating from pass rushers, especially in the 90s when the rules were less friendly to the position, that’s simply unbelievable that he’d be able to take the field that many times in a row.

What’s more, it’s not as if Favre was simply walking out there at 100 percent for all 297 of his starts. He played through many ailments and did so even at the end of his career when he was hardly a young man in terms of NFL players anymore. While Cal Ripken Jr.’s Iron Man streak receives more accolades and is obviously a ridiculously higher number of consecutive games played, the fact that Favre was able to do it in a violent sport like football almost makes it more impressive — almost.
