Houston Texans Free Agency 2017: top 5 targets
The Houston Texans are not far from being an elite contender, but they have to make some moves. What are some additions that they can make via free agency?
The Texans won a playoff game with Brock Osweiler as their quarterback. That should tell you just how talented the majority of the roster is. Still, they are tied into Osweiler, and if they want to make that next step they have to make some adjustments and additions to the roster. Who are the five players the Texans should target in free agency that would put them over the hump?
5. Jack Doyle
This would be the classic case of stealing from your enemies to make yourself richer. One thing Brock Osweiler did a lot, especially under pressure was check down to his safety blankets at tight end. Ryan Griffen is a free agent, and while C.J. Fiedorowicz ate off of his added targets, he is still not a top tight end option, and his stats were likely inflated making him a better fantasy football option than a football player.
This team could certainly upgrade at tight end. Jack Doyle is great not only because he steals from the Colts, but he gives you the best of both worlds. He is a plus blocker and is a reliable pass catching option. Doyle is savvy, and can find soft spots in the zone and can sit in them. He would be the perfect safety blanket, as well as an addition in the run game and red zone.
The question will come down to how much he demands on an open market. The tight end group of free agents is not necessarily a strong group and he will end up as one of the prized options on the market. The Texans need a tight end, the question will then be how bad?
