Ryan Clady has had an injury plagued career, and he is now a free agent.

The New York Jets will not be picking up Ryan Clady’s $10 million option for next season, as reported by Adam Schefter earlier today. This makes Clady a free agent in the upcoming summer.

Clady played only nine games this season because of a torn rotator cuff. The rotator cuff is one of many injuries Clady has had over his entire career.

Injuries will ultimately be Clady’s downfall because of his injury-plagued career which started out in such promising fashion.

He was named to the Pro Bowl four times, was a two-time All-Pro selection and finished third for the rookie of the year award behind Matt Ryan and Chris Johnson.

Allowing less than one sack through 20 games played, Clady impressed everyone by making the 2009 All-Pro team.

In 2008, Clady won the Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week award after his impressive performance against the Kansas City Chiefs. That was the first time that an offensive lineman on offense or defense had claimed the award.

The Denver Broncos wanted Clady for the long haul, so they offered him a five-year $50 million contract in 2011. Clady did not accept, wanting to play the season out and see if he could snag even more.

After the 2012 season, the Broncos slapped a franchise tag worth $9.823 million. The two sides then came to an agreement on a contract worth $52.5 million over five years with $33 million guaranteed over the first 3 years.

In 2013 Clady was placed on season-ending IR due to a Lisfranc injury he acquired in the Week 2 game against the New York Giants. And then before the 2015 season even started, Clady tore his ACL in OTAs and was placed again on season-ending IR.

In the 2016 offseason, Clady and a seventh-round pick were traded to the Jets for a fifth-round pick.

And now he is a free agent, ready to sign with any team that comes his way. It seems as if injuries have ruined Clady’s career. Maybe he can resurrect it with a new team?
