Vince Young hires agent, apparently eyes comeback
By Nick Tylwalk
Even though he was never that great at the NFL level the first time around, could Vince Young really be that much worse than, say, Brock Osweiler?
Maybe Vince Young looks at Marcus Mariota and sees himself. The parallels aren’t that much of a stretch: both were superstar dual-threat college quarterbacks, and both were anointed the saviors of the Tennessee Titans at different times.
Mariota still could be. Young definitely wasn’t.
In fact, Young’s NFL career really didn’t play out the way he expected at all. Five seasons with the Titans, starting off promisingly enough as the 2006 Offensive Rookie of the Year but ending with as many INTs thrown as TDs. One year with the Eagles, where he was more famous for something he said than anything he did on the field. Then practice squads, and then … nothing.
But maybe the Vince Young NFL story isn’t over yet. He’s signed with an agent and apparently has his eyes on a comeback attempt.
It’s not completely insane since Young is only 33 years old. The timing also is as good as it’s likely to get, with most pundits considering the 2017 NFL Draft class relatively weak at QB and needy teams honestly considering oft-injured Tony Romo or potential flash in the pan Jimmy Garoppolo to improve their fortunes.
On the other hand, it can’t be stressed highly enough that Young was never all that great when he got his first chance. He’s currently the owner of a 74.4 career passer rating, and he never once passed for more than 12 TDs in a season. You’d have to think he’s a step slower now as well.

Everyone loves a good comeback story, though, and when you consider some of the quarterbacks who actually took snaps over the past two NFL seasons, you just never know. Good luck, Vince. Maybe you’ll surprise us to the upside.
