Kyle Korver is now a member of the exclusive 2,000 3-pointers club.

Last night, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyle Korver scored 25 points and shot a whopping 75 percent from behind the 3-point arc. That exemplary performance helped propel Korver into a coveted club of players who’ve drained 2,000 shots from behind the arc.

Welcome, Mr. Korver.

The pretegious club has a total of seven members, with five active today. Paul Pierce, Jamal Crawford, Jason Terry, and Vince Carter are the other active members. Reggie Miller and Ray Allen are the only retired players with 2,000 3-pointers — a reflection of how the NBA game has evolved in the past two decades.

But Korver’s achievement is different when compared to the other active members. Korver is shooting 43 percent from beyond the arc for his career, a higher percentage than the other members. Korver is also much younger than the active members, so he has the chance to move closer to the all-time leader for 3s — Ray Allen. Allen has a grand total of 2,973 3-pointers made over his career while shooting  40 percent on his career. It will be a hard feat to beat Allen’s number but Korver has the potential to do it.

Kyle was traded from the Atlanta Hawks to the Cleveland Cavaliers this season and the trade seems to be working in his favor. With the absence of starting shooting guard, J.R. Smith, Korver is the main 3-point shooter on the team and he can shoot lights out. Korver is shooting 52 percent from 3 and averaging 11 points per game since joining the Cavs and he is not slowing down.

Next: Kyle Korver has never seen so many open 3-pointers

The bad news for Korver is that his production will slow down once Smith returns, but he will still be an invaluable member of this team. Korver will be a major part of the Cavs success this season and it will be fun to watch.
