The Dallas Cowboys are expected to release Tony Romo and not trade him. Well, that’s at least what he thinks.

The Dallas Cowboys finished the 2016 season with a record of 13-3, but lost in their first playoff game. Going into the season, pundits were speculating about the team’s potential at quarterback with the injury to Tony Romo, but the season answered a lot of questions regarding their quarterback situation for the future.

Rookie Dak Prescott emerged on the scene and was unceremoniously handed the starting role once Romo went down with an injury in the preseason. Throughout the season, owner Jerry Jones would answers questions daily on what he was to do once Romo was healthy.

Prescott answered the questions for him on the field along with fellow rookie sensation Ezekiel Elliot, and led Dallas to the number one seed in the NFC. These new-look Cowboys are expected to be around for a long time.

The big question is now, what will they do with Romo? According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Romo is expecting to be released by the team and not traded.

Werder also notes that Romo thinks that he can play two or three more seasons in the NFL despite his injury history. His injuries aren’t a concern to be brushed aside. In just two years, he fractured his collarbone twice and suffered a compression fracture in his back. Despite all that, Romo is talented enough to be given another chance as a team’s starter.

It is clear that the Cowboys are going to move forward with Prescott and that’s the smart choice. As for Romo, the Denver Broncos seem like the perfect fit. Denver failed to make the playoffs this year after winning the Super Bowl the previous season with the now-retired Peyton Manning. They have a defense that is dominant but their QB situation seemed questionable.

They did see some good things from Trevor Siemian but as far as a franchise guy, Siemian has long ways to go. For a team looking to win now, Denver and Romo could be a perfect fit.

The Bears, 49ers and Bills are other teams to keep an eye on if Romo is released by Dallas.
