2017 NFL Mock Draft: Patrick Mahomes on the rise
By Brad Weiss
The New York Giants defense struggled mightily during the 2015 NFL season, and eventually it led to the team getting rid of two-time Super Bowl winning head coach, Tom Coughlin. Coughlin’s offensive coordinator, Ben McAdoo, took over as the head coach for the 2016 season, and the results were astounding. McAdoo led the Giants back to the playoffs for the first time in five years, though they would quickly be erased by the Green Bay Packers in the wild card round.
As the Giants look towards 2017, they have to be happy with the strides the team made on defense last season. The big question will be whether or not to bring back Jason Pierre-Paul, who looks to be back as a Pro Bowl player. The biggest weakness on the 2016 Giants was the play of the offensive line, and that is the area that they should target in April’s draft.
Cam Robinson has been the anchor of the Alabama Crimson Tide line for a couple of seasons, and he has the size and strength to play left tackle in the NFL. The Giants have to protect Eli Manning better going forward, as the veteran may not have a ton of good football left in him. New York is way too talented offensively to be so vanilla, and adding a good offensive lineman in the draft could give Eli the time to make big throws downfield to guys like Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard.
