2017 NFL Mock Draft: Patrick Mahomes on the rise
By Brad Weiss
There may not be a worse way to end a regular season than what happened to the Oakland Raiders in 2016. The Raiders looked to be cruising towards the No. 2 seed in the AFC when disaster struck in Week 16. Star quarterback Derek Carr went down with a broken leg, and with him, went any chance the Raiders had to make a serious run at a Super Bowl.
Fast forward a couple of months and all things look pretty good for the Raiders. They just signed head coach Jack Del Rio to a four-year extension, and their roster is ready to make another run at the playoffs. Oakland won 12 games last season, making the playoffs for the first time since 2002, and it could be a sign that the franchise could be playing for championships very soon.
The defense has always been a sore spot in Oakland, and more specifically, the secondary. The Raiders brought in Reggie Nelson and Sean Smith during the offseason last year, but it still did not stop them from being burnt on numerous occasions. Bringing in a player like USC’s Adoree’ Jackson would give the team a playmaker in the defensive secondary, and teaming him with Smith would give the Raiders some elite talent at the cornerback position next season.
