Today NBA Cares partnered with KaBOOM! to build a playground in Gretna, Louisiana.
NBA Cares is the NBA’s global outreach program that addresses important issues such as education, health and wellness, and youth development. The beginning of All-Star weekend, or every Friday on All-Star weekend, all the players involved in the weekend are encouraged to come out and help the community in the planned event.
KaBOOM! is a non-profit organization that encourages kids to go outside and play. So, the league partnered with KaBOOM! in an effort to build a playground for William Hart Elementary School.
In addition to KaBOOM!, Rebuilding Together partnered with the league to invest time into neighborhoods in New Orleans by repainting houses. The volunteers will also be planting a garden a community garden for the Hollygrove-Dixon neighborhood.
Jr. NBA is hosting its second annual Jr. NBA day where NBA players and coaches host a clinic and teach young players the ways of the game. The participants get real feedback from current and retired players and coaches, D-league too.
The league commissioner, Adam Silver, has really pushed players and coaches to participate in NBA Cares events to give back to the communities. The push has been successful as 3.7 million hours have been invested into NBA cares.
