It’s been a bad week for Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund were shocked by Darmstadt in the Bundesliga last weekend. Tuesday, Dortmund were beaten 1-0 by Benfica in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash.
Champions League returned at a bad time for Dortmund. Thomas Tuchel’s squad is battling injures to Sebastian Rode, Sven Bender and Mario Gotze. The injuries and mid-week Champions League games could catch up to Dortmund. With Hoffenheim level on points with Dortmund for the last Champions League spot, Tuchel doesn’t have the luxury of resting as many starters as he would like. Tuchel elected not to play Shinji Kagawa against Benfica, so expect the Japanese international to come into the starting XI on Saturday.
Wolfsburg have been disappointing for a second straight season. After finishing second in the 2014-15 season, Wolfsburg have not been able to replace Kevin De Bruyne. The sale of De Bruyne and financial restrictions passed on the club because of the Volkswagen scandal now have the club fighting to stay out of the relegation zone. Wolfsburg currently sit 14th in the table, but could steal points from Dortmund after a their game in Lisbon.
