Derrick Jones Jr. tried to make the people remember his name with his first dunk of the 2017 Slam Dunk Contest, jumping over four people.

Despite being a D-League call-up who’s played a grand total of 24 minutes on the season for the Phoenix Suns, Derrick Jones Jr. is called “Airplane Mode” for a reason.

With DeAndre Jordan jumping over DJ Khaled’s D.J. booth and Glenn Robinson III bringing the heat on his first attempt, the least known name of the four contestants had to make a good first impression.

Bringing out three Suns teammates in Devin Booker, Marquese Chriss and Alan Williams (plus some other guy for a fourth body), Jones lined them up in front of the basket and attempted to sail over all four of them.

Though he missed on the first try, Derrick Jones Jr. stuck the landing on his second attempt:

Missing the first dunk attempt cost him some points, but as you can see, this youngster has some unbelievable bounce. It wasn’t the best dunk of the first round (Glenn Robinson III definitely won that category), but this insane amount of hang time earned Derrick Jones Jr. a score of 45.

With his second dunk being a perfect 50 and Aaron Gordon failing to live up to the hype, the Suns’ youngster actually went into the next round leading the pack.

Only time will tell if he can actually pull off the massive upset as a D-League rags to riches story, but winning the 2017 Slam Dunk Contest would be one heck of a start to put his name on the map.
