The Utah Jazz are interested in bringing back Deron Williams

The Utah Jazz are a team on the verge of breaking out in the west. They’ve put together a very solid young core and have a great mix of veterans to compliment them. Their coach, Quin Snyder, is nowhere near talked about enough as one of the top coaches in the NBA, and their defense is one of the best. Right now they sit in the middle of the west with a chance to make a jump to the elite class. They aren’t there yet, but a trade might be enough to push them over the top.

What type of trade is hard to say, but the Jazz seem to have an idea of what they would like to do. Reports came out today that Utah has shown interest in bringing back former All-Star point guard Deron Williams via trade.

Williams was shockingly traded near the deadline in 2011 right around the same time Carmelo Anthony was traded. Reports in 2011 were that Williams and then coach Jerry Sloan had a falling out that led to Sloan’s immediate resignation and retirement. Shortly after the Jazz decided to part ways with Williams and begin a rebuild for the franchise. The results of that rebuild are what the Jazz have become today.

This would be a really strange move by Utah. They already have a capable point guard in George Hill, and they’re still in the process of developing Dante Exum. With Shelvin Mack also on the roster the Jazz would have to move a guard to make playing time for Williams, and he’s still nowhere near the same caliber of player as his first stint in Utah. That said, Williams reportedly regrets how his exit took place in Utah and loves the area. Perhaps a homecoming is just what he needs.
