A look at the Big East power rankings for Week 16 of the college basketball season

We’ve entered Week 16 of the college basketball season, so it’s time to have a look at how the Big East rankings are shaping out.

DePaul got crunched in their only game last week, going down 82-66 at Butler. I’m going to put as much effort into this section as the Blue Demons have the last month of their season: they’re bad.

We have to watch them for just four more regular season games, and hopefully just one Big East tournament game. Godspeed, DePaul’s 2016-17 campaign.

Seton Hall scored a solid win against Creighton last Wednesday night, taking the first in a series of three Coach Kevin Willard say they needed to win two of. But they then got blown out at home by a Villanova team down to six rotation players they expected to have at the beginning of the season. It’s understandable – Villanova’s very good – but it was a disappointing effort for a Seton Hall team that will very much be on the bubble until the final verdict is handed down on Selection Sunday.

But it doesn’t sink them. Willard was right – they just needed two of three. They’ll get their third straight shot at a quality win with home field advantage this Wednesday against Xavier. The Musketeers are on a 3-game losing streak, so some of the quality has worn off any potential win in the wake of the Edmond Sumner injury. But it would be another resume-builder for a Pirate squad currently projected among the ā€œLast 4 inā€ by Joe Lunardi. We’ll see if they can secure it.
