Didn’t preorder the Nintendo Switch? Well, if you’re lucky, you can walk into GameStop on launch day and maybe purchase one in stock.

Immediately after the Nintendo Switch live presentation in January, retailers like GameStop and Best Buy began to accept preorders. Most people jumped on this opportunity, both online and in-store. If you didn’t get a preorder, your chances of getting one aren’t looking so great. However, you have a chance of purchasing one on launch day.

According to Polygon, GameStop will have a short supply of Switch’s for those customers who want to walk in and get one. GameStop released a statement in a press release:

"Customers who were not able to pre-order the system are encouraged to attend GameStop’s midnight launch events."

We don’t want to sound negative, but based on this statement, things aren’t looking to great. This is if you don’t have a preorder, of course. From our experience, in order to get a number to get in line for the midnight release, you need to have a preorder.

You can still attend the midnight release and wait in line, but your console purchase isn’t guaranteed. If you’re at the back of the line behind everyone who does have a number/ preorder, by the time it’s your turn, there probably won’t be anymore consoles.

Some people should know better, especially knowing how Nintendo does business. The most recent example is the Nintendo NES Classic Edition. Chances are that you probably don’t have one of these. That’s because retailers everywhere had a very limited supply at launch.

Even after launch, it’s almost impossible to find one. Nintendo has stated that the Switch won’t have supply issues, but we’ll believe it when we see it. On the bright side, if you have a preorder, then you’re good to go. If you don’t, you still have a shot, but we won’t say it’s a good one.
