Ole Miss is punishing itself for plenty of illegal activities the NCAA says happened – and one former basketball star couldn’t bite his tongue.
When the Ole Miss Rebels take the field this November 25th for a battle with rival Mississippi State, it will be the final time in 2017 that “Hotty Toddy” will take the field for a football game. Wednesday, the school self imposed a one year postseason ban – a move that means no possible SEC Championship Game, no bowl game and no millions of dollars from the conference.
The move was in response to the NCAA’s findings regarding alleged illegal activity – including thousands of dollars paid to a recruit who didn’t even end up signing with Ole Miss – and seen by many as a move designed to help lessen any punishments the governing body might hand down during the future hearing over the matter.
The Rebels have been a laughing stock regarding this matter since last April when former football player Laremy Tunsil says he received money from a coach during his time in Oxford. Apparently, members of the Ole Miss family are joining in on the jokes today.
Marshall Henderson, the always outspoken former basketball stay who led the school to a SEC Tournament crown and NCAA appearance in 2013, dropped this little dime on his alma mater shortly after the announcement:
You know things are bad when not only are shots being fired from your own alumni – but from one of the best athletes you’ve had in any sport at the school over the last half decade. At least Henderson said he was sticking with the Rebels after firing that shot.

Ole Miss had already self imposed a reduction of scholarships before the 2016 season, something it added to for the next two seasons as well. The NCAA’s newest findings added eight more violations to their original case while hitting the school with the scarlet letter of findings: lack of institutional control.
