Indianapolis Colts: 5 offseason needs
3. Offensive Line
Looking forward to 2017, only three names should be locked into starting jobs on the offensive line. Anthony Castonzo at left tackle, Jack Mewhort at left guard, and Ryan Kelly at center are starters and not bad options. At right guard and right tackle, they could use an upgrade.
While they should be stingy and look for value at corner and linebacker, these could the positions where the Colts look to spend on a free agent. Ron Leary is going to be a valued commodity and is very likely to hit the market. If the Colts were to overpay on any free agent, why not pay Leary to sure up the inside with depth, youth, and talent?
At right tackle, Ricky Wagner and Sebastian Vollmer are the big names on the market. Both would be great fits, and while both will come with a price tag, in the name of saving Andrew Luck, it should be done. Andre Smith is more of a risk at right tackle but could be a lower price, high reward play who could compete for a starting job this offseason.
This is not a great offensive line draft class, but the Colts could certainly spend a couple of middle or late round picks building up some depth in the unit. Running the football and protecting Luck should be the goal, and doing with an incomplete offensive line is counter-productive. They have to hit this position hard.
