1. EDGE

Here are the names of outside linebackers signed on for the Colts in 2017; Deon King, and Alex Bazzie. In other words, they have no one currently signed on for 2017. Robert Mathis, Trent Cole, Erik Walden, Akeem Ayers and Chris Carter are all free agents at the position. Mathis is a nice name, and Colts legend but he is mulling a possible retirement. Cole does not need to be retained, Carter is just a guy, and while Walden and Ayers would be welcomed back if that is all they bring back, it is safe to say they still need outside help.

Melvin Ingram and Chandler Jones are the big name pass rushers in this free agency class. They could be an option for the Colts, but the Colts should still prioritize the offensive line with the big money, and only if they don’t have confidence signing a big name there, should they look at these names. Sam Acho, Alex Okafor, and Datone Jones would be some cheaper names, but even with a couple these guys, and a re-signing of Walden or Ayers, the draft is going to be used to address the position.

This is supposed to be a great edge class. They could find one of the better edge prospects in the first round. While edge seems to be the smartest way to invest in the first round, they could go the route of double dipping with a lower round pick at this position as well. It is safe to say this position needs an overhaul, and now is the time to do it.
