Patrick Beverley is currently on the Cleveland Cavaliers radar for a potential trade target before the deadline strikes
Patrick Beverley is a point guard for the Houston Rockets, and he is a very good role player. Because of his recent play and a need in the market, the Cleveland Cavaliers are attempting to trade for the point guard from Houston.
As reported by Marc Stein of ESPN earlier today, the Rockets are looking to make even more moves before the deadline on Thursday. Iman Shumpert could be the newest addition of the sharpshooting Rockets. He is currently shooting 40.3 percent from the 3-point line and would fit in immediately with the Rockets. He would also even add some much-needed defense to the lineup. Then
Then Stein sent out one more tweet, saying that the Cavaliers would like to have Beverley in return for Shumpert. That is a fair deal to the Cavaliers considering their desperate need for a backup point guard. Beverley is currently averaging 9.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game for the Rockets. Beverley is crucial to the Rockets’ second unit and keeps the offense under control while James Harden is on the bench.
While the Rockets gain a very good perimeter defender in Shumpert, they lose their secondary ball handler in Beverley. NBA trades are a game of give and take, but the Rockets definitely feel like they will be getting the short end of the stick if they have to give up Beverley.
The Rockets are trying to quickly build up their roster to compete with the superpowers of the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs. The Rockets are in 3rd place in the Western conference and they will make the playoffs under the direction of Mike D’Antoni and MVP candidate James Harden.
If the Rockets can somehow acquire Iman Shumpert without giving up Beverley, that will make them an even bigger threat to make the finals.
