Here are three potential trade destinations for Vancouver Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller.

The Vancouver Canucks are likely going to be sellers at the NHL trade deadline. They find themselves needing to replenish their farm system. Trading some of their upcoming free agents could be a good way to do it. Ryan Miller is one who the Canucks must trade considering the goaltending market.

However, there’s a catch. Miller has a modified no trade clause, meaning he gets to pick which five teams he can be traded to without his consent. Three of those teams are in California. With several teams likely looking for goalie depth, Miller can still provide a veteran presence and someone capable of winning games in the postseason. However, with zero Stanley Cups, he’s likely going to be willing to waive it to move to a contender. Here are three potential destinations for Ryan Miller.

3. Pittsburgh Penguins

This one is the oddball of the trio. Pittsburgh is not close to Vancouver or California. However, if they choose to trade Marc Andre-Fleury, Miller could be a solid fill in option for them. Considering they have 16 games in March, a strong backup is needed. Fleury is their backup with Matt Murray serving as their primary starter. However, thanks to his no movement clause, Pittsburgh might have to protect him at the expansion draft. This would leave Murray unprotected.

Miller could help solve this issue while also giving the Penguins a solid backup if they trade Fleury. He hasn’t won a Stanley Cup yet in his career, so he’d likely be open to a trade to a contending team like Pittsburgh. It’s a bit of an odd fit, but it’s one that could be there depending on how things play out with the Fleury situation.
