Tennessee Titans: 5 offseason needs
The Titans took a huge step forward in 2016. What can they do to assure a playoff spot in 2017?
Year two of the Marcus Mariota era brought plenty of promise. It ended on a poor note, but overall the roster is leaps and bounds better than what it was when they picked in the top two in each of the past two seasons. However, the Titans just sniffed the playoffs and now will want to get their young quarterback his first playoff experience in 2017. What positions should they hit this offseason to ensure that?
5. Nose Tackle
Jurrell Casey has proven to be a monster on the inside of the Titans defensive line. Karl Klug did a solid job slotting in around him, but Klug is a free agent this offseason. Daquan Jones, Al Woods and Austin Johnson can fill in as depth replacements for Klug, but the team could still use a dynamic space eater in the middle of their defense and an upgrade over Klug.
The big names to watch in free agency are Brandon Williams and Dontari Poe. Both are going to get paid, but both are perfect fits for a Dick LeBeau defense. They would be major upgrades over Klug, and given the depth behind him, if one of them came to Tennessee, the defensive front would be a complete and scary unit.
Sylvester Williams and Johnathan Hankins are more affordable options, but the Titans should honestly be looking more towards the draft to fill this hole if the do not hit big. It will likely not happen in the first round, but given the depth, the Titans could go for a rotation of youth and up and coming talent to wear down defensive fronts. It is not a major need and could be fixed simply by re-signing Klug. Still, Titans fans would be drooling if this team could find a way to add Poe or Williams.
