Tom Herman was once fired from Subway for bogarting pastrami

Texas head coach Tom Herman revealed a story from his high school days that is sure to make everyone feel better about how they lost their first job.
One of the joys of getting older is looking back on the decent job you have now (like working at FanSided, right) and remembering all the crappy jobs you had before getting to that point. In the case of new Texas head coach Tom Herman, the story of how he lost his high school job might win the day for those stories.
The 41-year-old, who has held a variety of jobs before coaching that included working in radio and television, told the Dallas Morning News the story of how he became a “former” employee of the popular fast food chain Subway – all because he couldn’t keep his hands off the meat in the cooler:
"“I used to love the pastrami,” he says. “They had those big walk-in refrigerators. I was standing in there one day, with the door shut, just throwing pastrami in my mouth. I’ve got this bin of meat, throwing meat in my mouth, the door swings open and it’s the owner.“He goes, ‘Get out. Don’t come back.’ “"
While some are going to laugh at what Herman admitted to, he should be commended for having such dignified taste. Most teenagers two decades ago going into their local Subway are going to go for the basic sandwiches without appreciating the finer meats. Herman should be applauded for having the appetite for the finer things – something that has served him well if you look at his smoking hot wife.

Now, Herman will be able to buy all the pastrami he wants from the nearest location to the Austin campus. At $5 million this season from the Longhorns, he could buy over 800,000 subs if he buys them in the month of February for six bucks each – that’s enough sandwiches for each fan inside DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium to eat each game when watching Texas strive for an 8-4 record this season.
