The Washington Wizards forked over a first-round pick in a package that landed them Bojan Bogdanovic ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
There are still just under 24-hours to go until the NBA trade deadline passes, but deals are being made. Nothing of the caliber we saw in the Boogie Cousins-to-New Orleans deal but notable names nonetheless.
Brooklyn is getting in on the trade frenzy, moving Bojan Bodanovic to the Washington Wizards in a package that involves a first-round pick. It wasn’t a blockbuster deal as far as names are concerned but there were ton of moving parts to make the deal happen.
The #WojBomb:
The Brooklyn Nets are trading Bojan Bogdanovic to the Washington Wizards, league sources tell @TheVertical.

Woj also dropped a (minor?) bomb that Chris McCullough and Marcus Thornton were also involved in the trade and will be moved to Washington. In exchange for all of this, the Wiz are sending a 2017 first-round pick along with Andrew Nicholson back to Brooklyn.
The real surprise here is that the Net made a trade and it didn’t involve Brook Lopez. Brooklyn has been rumored to be trying to move their high priced big man in a deal before the deadline but so far haven’t found any takers. Word around the rumor mill — which is always the single most reliable thing on the internet — is that the Pacers could be eyeing Lopez to help appease Paul George. New Orleans was also a rumored destination for Lopez prior to the Boogie Cousins deal.
As for the Wizards dealing for Bogdanovic, it’s a money saving move for the offseason. Bojan is a restricted free agent this summer while the Wizards moved Nicholson’s $26 million contract along with the minimal money that Thornton is making this season. Nicholson’s contract is over the next four years, while McCullough is in just the second year of his rookie deal.
In addition to saving future money by moving Nicholson, the Wizards are making a last ditch effort to compete in the East with viable options in Bojan and McCullough. How it all plays out is yet to be seen.
