KJ McDaniels has been traded to the Brooklyn Nets from the Houston Rockets.

Earlier this afternoon, Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical dropped yet another “Woj bomb” saying the Houston Rockets have traded K.J. McDaniels to the Brooklyn Nets.

This was a good move by Houston. After recently acquiring Lou Williams, the Rockets could use a little bit of cap space. The Rockets saved $3 million of said cap space.

What does this trade mean?

The Rockets executed this trade to move around money and clear up $3 million dollars in cap space. K.J. McDaniels was not a valuable piece to the Rockets offense, averaging 2.8 points, 1 rebound, and .1 assists per game. The Rockets now have an open spot on the roster and can add another piece to their sharpshooting lineup.

The Nets now have an extra wing to add to their lineup after the loss of Bojan Bogdanovic, who was traded to the Wizards in exchange for Marcus Thornton, a first-round pick, and Andrew Nicholson. Although McDaniels has struggled this season, hopefully, he can make help orchestrate a few more wins for the seemingly lost franchise, the Brooklyn Nets.

The Rockets could use the extra cap space because it seems as though they will be very aggressive in the offseason. With the addition of Lou Williams, the Rockets have made a statement that they are not going to wait around and hope to win in the future, they would like to win now. And why not? With the top MVP candidate at the helm, the Rockets are hoping to make the western conference finals in a crowded field of good teams.

The Nets have stated that they are going to waive Marcus Thornton, so it looks as if McDaniels will be with the Nets for at least the remainder of the season. McDaniels is on the second year of his three-year, $10 million dollar contract.
