The Los Angeles Clippers are always interested in landing help out on the wing. One player they are eyeing is New York Knicks shooting guard Courtney Lee.

For most of the Doc Rivers era in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Clippers have struggled to get consistent play out on the wing outside of shooting guard J.J. Redick. Rivers is not only the head coach but also president of basketball operations for the Clippers. So he gets to make the final call on building his team.

One player that might find himself in Los Angeles in the final minutes before the 2017 NBA trade deadline is New York Knicks shooting guard Courtney Lee. According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, the “Knicks and Clippers have had recent talks about shooting guard Courtney Lee.”

Lee signed a four-year deal with the Knicks this summer worth $48 million. He will be under contract through the 2019-20 NBA season. Lee is a career 38.7 percent shooter from three and a 45.1 percent shooter from the field. He would theoretically provide stability out on the wing for the Clippers should he be traded to Los Angeles.

Not only have the Clippers had a miserable time finding reliability at the three, but they are on the precipice of losing Redick in unrestricted free agency this summer. Redick will have played out the fourth and final year of his contract before landing presumably another big payday on the open market.

In short, don’t expect the same corps four of Redick, point guard Chris Paul, power forward Blake Griffin, and center DeAndre Jordan to all be back for the Clippers for another season. All but Jordan will be hitting free agency this summer.

Trading for Lee doesn’t get the Clippers over the top but would provide some stability before potentially a major free agency exodus by many of the top players in the Los Angeles organization.
