Ron Leary: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
3. Seattle Seahawks
Everybody should know that the offensive line is the major area of need for the Seahawks this offseason. The line shuffled no names, former basketball players and former defensive lineman throughout the season just hoping for anyone to stick. It ended up getting their franchise quarterback hurt for most of the season, and an early safety in the playoffs gave them an early exit last season.
The Seahawks got anything but consistency from essentially every spot on the offensive line, and this offseason they need to attack that unit a lot harder. Their case for using projects at the tackle position is built around the fact that Russell Wilson is so good at escaping the pocket and making plays outside of the pocket.
It is a fair point, but all that means is that the team should look for help on the interior before the tackle position. This still was a team that was most successful leading off with a run between the tackles, that open up all of that space for Wilson to move in. The days of Marshawn Lynch are over, but the team still needs that power running presence.
They went for a guard in the first round with Germain Ifedi last season. Now, they need to build off of that and give him a stable veteran to play with. Leary would be just that and has the experience holding up for a run first offense like he did in Dallas.
