Triple H seems to be building himself a new stable in WWE. Could he be set to take on one of the best factions in WWE history once again because of it?
Triple H is a strange character in the world of WWE. On the one hand, he is the man who has done such amazing things with the NXT brand. On the other, he’s still meant to be the evil Authority figure sitting in the background on RAW. You can see why fans have no idea how to treat him when he does appear on Mondays.
In the last few months Triple H has been waiting for his moment, sitting back in the shadows and not really being a presence over the main roster. Then Seth Rollins remembered he had a bee in his bonnet about his former Authority boss, and he just wouldn’t stop calling him out.
Week after week Rollins called for Triple H to come and face him on TV. But week after week — Triple H didn’t turn up. Then Rollins did something shocking.
During the most recent NXT TakeOver event, held the night before the Royal Rumble in San Antonio, Rollins showed up in the middle of the NXT ring. Rollins was here to face Triple H on his own turf, and he wasn’t going to take no for an answer.
It was Triple H who finally got to the point where he couldn’t ignore Rollins any longer. The Game finally made his return to RAW, calling out Rollins, but he wasn’t alone. As Rollins looked to finally be getting the face-to-face confrontation he’d been looking for, Samoa Joe jumped him and put him out of action.
It may have been a ridiculous accident that ended up with Rollins needing some more time on the injured list, but this legitimate injury could be a great way to build something bigger than what was meant to just be a Triple H vs Rollins program for WrestleMania 33.
Triple H seemed to have gotten himself some heavy duty backup, but the addition of Samoa Joe to the fray was a master stroke. After seeing Joe take up a spot at the side of Triple H, we also saw someone else come into the fray recently.
Shortly before Kevin Owens finally turned his back on Chris Jericho, during the ill-fated Festival of Friendship, Triple H was seen in the ear of the WWE Universal Champion. Let’s not forget it was Triple H who assisted Owens’ win of that belt back in 2016.
This past week on RAW we saw Kevin Owens attempt to explain his actions. Later in the night, Mick Foley informed Owens he would be facing Sami Zayn. That match was ever-so-slightly over shadowed by another Samoa Joe sneak attack, this time as Zayn was about to enter the ring.
During that attack, Joe screamed the words “THIS IS YOUR WORLD NOW!” into the face of Zayn. Could this most unlikely of alliances between Samoa Joe and Kevin Owens be the beginning of something more important in the grand scheme of things?
In the last few days, Rollins has taken to social media to send cryptic messages to Triple H. Shortly after Rollins posted on Instagram, it was announced that The Architect would take part in an interview on the next episode of RAW. That interview will more than likely begin as little more than an update on Rollins’ injury status in the run up to WrestleMania — but it should become a whole lot more.
With Rollins standing in the ring, Triple H should come out onto the stage to mock his former protege. While Rollins is distracted by Triple H, Samoa Joe needs to jump into the ring and attack Rollins again. That leads to Roman Reigns doing the right thing and heading to the ring to help his fallen friend. With Reigns beating down Joe, Owens charges to the ring and takes out Reigns.
Triple H makes his way to the ring and stands over the fallen Rollins and Reigns, with Owens and Joe by his side. Triple H tells Reigns and Rollins that they will never be able to step up to the plate and face his two hired guns. The following weeks sees Triple H, Owens and Joe attack both Rollins and Reigns at every opportunity.
After seeing Rollins almost destroyed by his minions, it’s Rollins who actually steps up and challenges Triple H to a match at WrestleMania. Triple H agrees but only if it’s a No DQ match. That match goes ahead, with both Joe and Owens making their presence felt and helping Triple H win the match. Rollins looks devastated as he leaves the ring.
The following night on RAW, Rollins calls out Triple H. Triple H makes his way to the ring to come face-to-face with Rollins, but instead is attacked on the ramp by Roman Reigns. That leads to Owens and Samoa Joe striding out onto the stage, both looking ready to attack once again. Reigns walks towards them as Rollins looks to join him. Only for Triple H to recover and take down Rollins.
Both Joe and Owens jump on Reigns, only for some familiar music to hit. Dean Ambrose charges out of the back and finally makes this a fair fight.
Ambrose isn’t a member of the RAW roster, but tells Triple H that he got the call from his former Shield colleagues and he wasn’t about to abandon them. Mick Foley then breaks the news that he has traded for the services of Ambrose on RAW, to settle the scores and to further drive home his authority to Stephanie McMahon. The whole segment blows the roof off the arena in front of the usually raucous post-WrestleMania RAW crowd.
After only one episode of RAW, we can have the mouth watering situation going forward where we have a re-formed Shield set to do battle with a Triple H-led faction featuring Samoa Joe and Kevin Owens. All six men can carry RAW through the summer, with big matches set to take place between them all, culminating in a massive six-man match at SummerSlam.
At one point, not too long ago, The Shield were the hottest property in WWE. It was only a corrupted Seth Rollins that broke up that brotherhood, a man corrupted by the promise of gold by Triple H. Now it’s time for Rollins to show how wrong he was to take the lure of riches from Triple H and finally get his hands on the man who turned his back on him when he needed him the most.
Triple H has got himself two of the best professional wrestlers in the world to back him up, both of whom are absolutely devastating opponents when they step inside that ring. In the three members of The Shield they may just be about to meet their match.
If WWE is looking for a massive match to sell SummerSlam, then Triple H, Samoa Joe and Kevin Owens vs The Shield is the way to go.
