The Atlanta Hawks starting point guard will miss tonight’s game due to suspension.
The Atlanta Hawks surprised a lot of people this offseason when they traded longtime starting point guard Jeff Teague to the Indiana Pacers. At the time the move seemed sudden, but it was also very clear that the Hawks were ready to hand the keys over to their young guard Dennis Schröder. When Atlanta drafted Schröder it was expected he would one day takeover the Hawks offense, but there were questions about the timing of it all.
So far this season he’s been hit and miss with some truly great games and a few duds here and there, but he’s clearly an important part to the Atlanta offense. Tonight however they will be without Schröder as he’s been suspended for the Hawks first game following the All-Star break. In a statement the team released today, it was clarified that the suspension was for not showing up on time following the All-Star break.

Schröder is currently averaging 17 points and 6 assists per game for Atlanta with career highs across the board in efficiency. The increase in minutes has helped, but he has taken his new role and ran with it to a lot of success. Considering the Hawks lack of creators across the roster and an offense that’s struggled for much of the year, the loss of Schröder will be noticeable even if it’s for just one game. It also doesn’t help their opponent, the Miami Heat, are one of the hottest teams in the NBA right now.

As for the suspension itself, Schröder appears to have broken a team rule and teams are very no-nonsense when it comes to that. Schröder will serve his suspension and that should be the end of it. There shouldn’t be any fallout or drama from Schröder’s suspension unless it becomes a re-occurring issue which seems unlikely.
