Baker Mayfield arrested in Fayetteville on public intoxication charges

Oklahoma Sooners star redshirt senior quarterback Baker Mayfield was arrested for public intoxication on Friday night in Fayetteville, AR.
The Oklahoma Sooners look to win their third straight Big 12 Championship and make the College Football Playoff for the second time in three years in 2017. However, Friday night brought all kinds of bad news to the program.
According to the Washington County police department in Fayetteville, AR, Oklahoma redshirt senior quarterback Baker Mayfield was arrested for public intoxication, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and attempting to flee the scene.
ESPN’s Jake Trotter tweeted out the University of Oklahoma’s statement following the arrest of the Sooners’ star quarterback, saying, “We are aware of the and are learning the details. We don’t have any other information at this time.”
Mayfield’s hearing in Fayetteville will be set for Monday. Fayetteville is home to the University of Arkansas.
It seems Mayfield had a little too much fun in another college town on Friday night. People get past public intoxication, but resisting arrest and trying to flee the scene of a crime isn’t a good look.
Keep in mind that Mayfield was a Heisman Trophy finalist for the Sooners in 2016. He has finished in the top five both of his years in Norman. Mayfield was granted another year of collegiate eligibility for 2017 after transferring away from the Texas Tech Red Raiders in 2013 after walking on to the team.
