Bayern Munich sit comfortably atop the Bundesliga table. The defending champions are five points ahead of second place RB Leipzig. In matchday 22, Hamburg travel to Munich. Hamburg are currently 15th in the table and are in danger of being relegated. Entering matchday 22, Hamburg sit just one point above the relegation playoff spot.
Bayern Munich were lucky to escape Berlin with a point in matchday 21. In extra time, Bayern were awarded a free-kick just outside the box. They an open shot for Arjen Robben from the free-kick. Robben’s shot was blocked, but the rebound went right to Robert Lewandowski, who scored the equalizer in the sixth minute of extra-time.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti is in some hot water after the game. The Bayern manager is being investigated by the German football association after he gave the finger to the fans in Berlin. Ancelotti claims he made the gesture after he was spit on by some of the fans.
Hamburg drew 2-2 with Freiburg in matchday 21. Markus Gisdol’s squad should be disappointed they did not get all three points. Hamburg blew a one-goal led twice in the game. In the 88th minute, Aaron Hunt had a chance to win it for Hamburg. But his penalty was easily saved by Freiburg keeper Alexander Schwolow.
