As the Lakers continue to look to the future, they’ve started to explore buyout options with guard, Jose Calderon.
According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Los Angeles Lakers have started to explore their buyout options with point guard Jose Calderon.
The 35-year-old point guard had only played in 24 games up until this point, averaging 12 minutes per game.
The Lakers took on his $7.7 million dollar contract to provide some veteran leadership to the young duo of D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson, but it was time to get his contract off the books and prepare for the offseason.
It was reported earlier that Cleveland would be interested in the duo of Calderon and Bogut, but with Deron Williams reportedly ready to sign with the Cavs after he clears waivers today at 5 p.m. ET, it looks like Calderon will be headed elsewhere.
It seems like the Houston Rockets and the Golden State Warriors are the front-runners to land Calderon after the Rockets cleared some cap space on the last day of the deadline, and the Warriors closed out a 10-day deal with Briante Weber.
I would much rather see the Rockets go after Andrew Bogut than Calderon. With a foursome of Harden, Williams, Gordon and Beverly, they would be much better off getting a defensive minded, talented passing big like Bogut that could run the pick-and-roll and dish it out to their shooters.
On the other hand, I think this would be a great move for the Warriors especially given the injury history between Steph Curry and Shaun Livingston.

Getting another solid point guard on that roster for any unforeseeable events in the postseason would be a wise move. Worst case scenario, Calderon has one of the best views in the house for one of the best shows in basketball.
