Brandon Jennings has been released by the New York Knicks and is available to be signed. Here are a few teams that could use him for the rest of this season.

Apparently, Brandon Jennings had enough losing and drama this season. Today, New York granted his release after Marc J. Spears reported, “Brandon Jennings told New York recently he wanted to play for a playoff team.”

Can you blame him?

The Knicks are currently 12th in the Eastern Conference. Their offense is sluggish and their defense is among the worst in the league. The team has also been a disaster off the court with Derrick Rose’s absence and fine, Phil Jackson actively trying to push out Carmelo Anthony, and the recent incident with Charles Oakley at Madison Square Garden.

If Jennings wants to play for a team with a brighter present, here are a few options.

5. Washington Wizards

ESPN’s Chris B. Haynes and Marc Stein reported earlier this afternoon that the Wizards are the likely front-runners to land Jennings. The Wizards had a difficult start to the season but have rebounded to become one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. John Wall is having a career season, Bradley Beal is playing as well as he ever has, and Otto Porter has been a revelation.

Still, the Wizards bench remains problematic. Trey Burke and Kelly Oubre Jr. have been generally inconsistent. Washington acquired Bojan Bogdanovic at the trade deadline and he’ll help give the bench an offensive boost but the Wizards shouldn’t stop there. Jennings’ scoring and ball-handling would pair with either Wall or Beal in staggered rotations as well as help run the second-unit. If Washington wants to make a playoff run they need a boost and Jennings could be just the guy.
