Who is the best MLB player from each state?
Alaska: Curt Schilling
Curt Schilling is one of just 12 MLB players born in the state of Alaska. For some reason, spending more than half the year covered in a few feet of snow has not led to a pipeline of baseball players to the big leagues. Schilling was born in Anchorage, but eventually moved to Arizona, and graduated from high school in the Phoenix area.
Schilling had, by far, the most illustrious career of any player born in Alaska. He won 216 games in the major leagues and was a part of three World Series winners. Were it not for his conservative political views (and a desire to remind us of them at every chance), Schilling would likely already be in the Hall of Fame, allowing Alaska to join the party. For the better part of the early 2000s, Schilling was one of the best pitchers in baseball, and had three 300-strikeout seasons.

In addition to Schilling, there have been several MLB players from Alaska that had respectable careers. Shawn Chacon was also born in Anchorage, and won 45 games over eight years in the big leagues, making the All-Star team in 2003. There is one active MLBer from Alaska, Tony Barnette, who made his debut last season.
