After Agents of SHIELD wrapped up the ‘LMD’ arc with arguably its best episode to date, but will there be a new episode right away?
ABC made the bold choice to move Agents of SHIELD to the 10 p.m. time slot before season 4, and the result has been a massive dip in ratings. It was already struggling to pull ABC’s average numbers for one of its shows, but viewership has decreased to as much as 2 million this season. But it’s their loss because they are missing out on the best Agents of SHIELD season yet.
Not only has SHIELD gotten riskier as a result of the later time slot, its also split up the season into three different story arcs. The first one, “Ghost Rider,” set a high bar, but “LMD” came in and shattered it. The last episode may very well have been Agents of SHIELD‘s best one yet. Not only did the “LMD” arc end with a literal bang, it teased the next story arc by re-imagining the main cast as HYDRA agents and bringing back a fan favorite:
But as you could tell by those two promos, Agents of SHIELD fans will have to wait until April for new episodes again — April 4, to be exact. That may seem like a long time, and it is, but it’ll be worth it if we get to see Grant Ward again. And fans can just pass the time by re-watching “LMD” in the meantime.
Speaking of ABC shows, the “Agents of Hydra” arc looks like it could be Marvel’s own spin on Lost when it did the “flash sideways.” But as any Lost fans will remember, the flash sideways was actually just the afterlife, and they did that because it was the show’s last season, which could be indicative of this show’s fate.

With Agents of SHIELD’s ratings the lowest they’ve ever been, ABC may very well pull the plug on the show. If that does turn out to be the case, SHIELD’s loyal fans deserve a sending off like no other. But for everyone’s sake, let’s hope that that’s not the case.
