Not 24 hours after being waived by the New York Knicks, point guard Brandon Jennings looks to be the newest member of the Washington Wizards.

According to Chris Haynes of ESPN, the Washington Wizards have reportedly agreed to a deal with former Knicks buyout, Brandon Jennings. Reports from The Vertical say that the Wizards will bring in Jennings on Wednesday to sign his contract. Details of the deal have not yet been released.

Jennings will come to Washington as a backup point guard who can add explosiveness and playmaking off the bench. At 27 years old, Jennings is averaging 8.6 points and 4.9 assists per game while with the Knicks. Although he was primarily as a rotation player for New York, Jennings’ release came as a shock to much of the New York fanbase.

Jennings will likely knock minutes off of current backup guard Trey Burke, who in his third year is averaging 4.9 points and 1.8 assists per contest. As Burke only averages 12 minutes a game, Jennings will come in and provide a reliable threat off the bench to lead the second unit.

The Wizards have been looking for depth this entire season. After adding Bojan Bogdanovic and Chris McCullough at the trade deadline, Washington took steps towards building their bench but were still missing pieces. With Bogdanovic still playing overseas, he is virtually useless to the Wizards until they bring him into the league.

Jennings is a big addition for Washington. He adds another point guard to complement John Wall off the bench and keep the Wizards dangerous while their second unit is in. As an offensive threat, Jennings is the missing piece the Wizards have been searching for all year.

Washington is 34-23 heading into Tuesday’s game against the Golden State Warriors. They sit fourth in the Eastern Conference and will look to climb the rankings by adding Jennings to the rotation.
