NHL Trade Rumors: Hurricanes shopping Teuvo Teravainen?
The most intriguing name available at the 2017 NHL trade deadline? Carolina Hurricanes forward Teuvo Teravainen.
The 2017 NHL trade deadline doesn’t have too many quality rental options available. Most of the great players have already been moved. The best center (Martin Hanzal) and best defenseman (Kevin Shattenkirk) have been traded. However, there are still some intriguing long term assets available. The most intriguing of them is Carolina Hurricanes forward Teuvo Teravainen.
"Once a ballyhooed prospect, Teravainen — the 18th overall pick in 2012 — has had some of the luster knocked off recently."
Even though he hasn’t had the best season for the Hurricanes, it’s very interesting he’s available. Maybe the Hurricanes can get even more draft picks for him. Still, Teravainen has 29 points in 58 games despite being moved constantly from wing to center. He could use another change of scenery, preferably to somewhere that would commit him to one position.
The best thing for Teravainen would be getting extended time at wing or center. Someone has to make the decision of what he is. It’s hard to develop as a player when you’re at center one game and wing the next. Stability is an often overlooked factor in a player’s development.
Tervainen has enough potential that teams should be calling the Hurricanes. At the same time, Carolina is likely going to ask a lot for him. And rightfully so. Young players like Teravainen are rarely on the trade market.
One possibility is he could be involved in a trade for Matt Duchene. Sure, the Colorado Avalanche want defensemen. But adding Teravainen to the package could give the Hurricanes the best chance of netting an elusive franchise center. They haven’t had one since trading Eric Staal.
