Looking to pick up a Nintendo Switch at launch? Here’s when it’ll be available.
The Nintendo Switch launch is approaching and this is an awesome time for fans everywhere. We’ve been waiting a few years for this moment and in less than a week, we’ll have it in our hands.
To cut right to the chase, the Switch officially launches on Friday, March 3. Prior to the Nintendo Switch live presentation, we figured that the company would reveal an official release date. We did know it was launching in March, though.
However, the release date was a bit surprising. We thought it would launch in late March. In fact, it launches the very first week of the month. There have been other consoles that have launched around that time.
For example, the NES, Nintendo 64 and most iterations of the Gameboy/ DS launched early in the year or in the summer. Still, most Nintendo consoles released during the holidays. The GameCube, Wii and Wii U all launched in November. The same goes for the SNES.
We like this release date early in the year, though. It means that the company wants to get the console to their consumers early on and release games throughout the year, which is great for business.
The demand for the Switch is extremely high right now, especially with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launching alongside it. If you didn’t preorder it after the live presentation, you still have a very small chance at getting one.
Your best bet would be to show up to the midnight release and wait in line. A console purchase isn’t guaranteed since there will be many other people in line with it paid off already. It’s still worth a shot.

Let’s just hope that Nintendo doesn’t release it with a limited supply. We know they’re famous for that.
