Tampa Bay Buccaneers veteran backup quarterback Mike Glennon is drawing interest in free agency from three other NFL teams. Who are they?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league in Mike Glennon. However, he doesn’t get any playing time behind franchise quarterback Jameis Winston. Glennon is hitting unrestricted free agency this spring and may be too valuable to stick with Tampa Bay long-term.

According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, there are reportedly three teams, possibly four that have high interest in signing Glennon: the Chicago Bears, the New York Jets, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Chicago and New York are two of the teams in dire need for a competent starting quarterback. Glennon looked alright at times during his rookie year in 2013 with Tampa Bay. We’ll never know what the Tampa Bay brass was thinking in bringing in Josh McCown in 2014 to start. However, clearly Lovie Smith and Dirk Koetter didn’t feel the same way about the former North Carolina State Wolfpack standout did like Greg Schiano.

While Glennon could sign with either Chicago and New York to compete right away for the starting job, the most interesting of these three teams is easily Pittsburgh. The Steelers know that starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger won’t play forever. Perhaps they aren’t too keen on either Landry Jones or Zach Mettenberger?

If Glennon is brought in to back up Roethlisberger for a year or two, that could be pragmatic for the Steelers. They will likely get an opportunity to see Glennon in regular season action in 2017, as Roethlisberger tends to miss games annually. Grabbing Glennon while he is a free agent could be a sneaky-good move for the Steelers this offseason.
